UK Autograss Championship 2023 – Round 3 Forest & Penhow – Men’s and Junior Saloons

Round three of the UK Autograss Championship was held by Forest and Penhow Autograss Clubs. It was another weekend of mixed conditions for everyone that made for some great racing. Check out the finals here.

Class 1 Sponsored by JC Parnell Racing

Stephen Mallinson (LM2) was the first to show and pulled away to take the win, ahead of Leo Purchase (SR29). The pack behind was close, but it was shootout winner Nathan Lewey (CA4) who worked his way through from pack from the back to take third place. James Parnell (SP921) was fourth ahead of Tyrone Goodchild (IK734) and Harry Witham (SP2). Dameon Goodwin (12F) and Nathan Everett-Atkinson (S53Y) complete the order.

It was Jordan Barlow (WS43) who would come through to take the win ahead of David Evans (P40) and shootout winner Corey Paisley (P8). Fourth place went to Phil Badman (S111D) ahead of Sam Barrett (SP19) and Phil Clark (CA85). Graham Holmes (NS93) completed the order whilst Jack Broughton (Y50) was a non-finisher.

It was a battle between Charlie Thompson (Y51) and Aaron Mackenzie (CA401) on the opening lap, but a spin for the Mackenzie saw the shootout winner drop down the order where he would eventually finish fifth. Thompson took a clear win ahead a battling Adrian Joyce (WS22) and Viv Cole (CM4), with Lee Wakefield (R838) fourth. Victor Marjoram (CA547) held off Stephen Goodwin (NS41) for sixth whilst Dave Westlake (123F) was a non-finisher.

A battle for the lead saw Lee Poole (S71D) add to his shootout win and take the victory ahead of Trev Jones (N1). Matt Poole (S24D) picked up the final trophy ahead of Ryan Meacham (R36) and the Invicta Kent pair of Craig Parker (IK335) and Paul Fiddy (IK366). Andy Meacham (R38) was unable to complete the race.

Ben Harper (M11) pulled away to take his second win of the day in the final. It was a close battle behind, but it was shootout winner Oliver Eggleton (IK149) who took second place ahead of Gary Morris (G112D) and Neil Jones (PAC74). Graham Stedman (E77) took fifth place ahead of Alex Smith (SN213). Alex Puddiphatt (SN23) had problems on board which saw him crawl across the line to complete the order, whilst Stuart Deacon (S60D) retired from the race.

The top two pulled away from the battle for third with shootout winner Aaron Murray (C80) taking the win and Martyn Canning (E291) second. Paul Bailey (H99) got the better of Matthew Whipps (ST93) for third spot and Dave Gilder (R61) completed the order in fifth. Neil Crompton (S7) was a non-finisher.

Chris Hooper (P55) was straight into the lead and from there went on to take the win ahead of Dean Hollingworth (N111) and Thomas Ireland (WS6). Stuart Powell (C95) beat shootout winner Jamie Barlow (WS34) to fourth place, with Jake Jackson (S101Y) sixth. Ben Williams (WS122) and James Holmes (NS931) completed the order.

It was messy off the line but it was Tom Page (SC19) who came out of the turn one ahead. Shootout winner, Sam Fenton (R5) was fighting for the win but it would go the way of Page, Jayran Lewis (PAC47) picked up second place with Fenton having to settle for third. Alan Henschker (G19D) claimed fourth place ahead of Darrell Cole (CM15) and Will Barrett (SR16). Daniel Parker (IK345) and Darren Hockley (62F) completed the order.

The rerun saw Anthony Read (WR150) take the win from shootout and eventual champion of champions winner, Jamie Hornby (ST47). Nigel Beard (G33D) took the final trophy position from Zoe Leyland (LM47) and Louis Jackson (N7). Sixth place went to Lee Forster (SP89) ahead of Dan Borman (NW47) and Brad Gallagher (LM9).

Leading from the start it was Neil Smart (SC600) who took the win ahead of Aaron Marfell (G366D) and James Claydon (YD229). Clive Boughton (G178D) was fourth followed by Andrew Watson (SB20) and Nigel Gibson (ST38) with Sam Murphy (A600) completing the order. Whilst problems for shootout winner Andrew Wood (ST4) saw him retire from the race.

It was Andrew Adams (R12) who was the first to show and went on to take his third win of the weekend. It was a battle behind for second place with Josh Morgan (G31D) taking the position ahead of Travis Kirk (SR65) and Jack Joyce (WS2). Mitch Hollingsbee (M888) was fifth followed by Meirion Rowlands (NW32) and Jay Gallagher (LM13) who completed the order. Adam Walters (G29D) was a non-finisher.

There was a battle for the lead with Garry Morris (G28D) taking the win ahead of Alex Fretwell (P152EM). These two pulled clear from the battle for third, which newly crowned national champion Chris Ashwin (SR84) took ahead of James Poltimore (79F) and Darren Cornwell (IK77). Shootout winner Vinny Gibbons (LM170) was sixth ahead of Tom Moorhouse (SC102) and Fergus Reynolds (PHD16).

The race was on at the front, but it was Connor Forster (SP298) who completed his clean sweep of the weekend by taking victory over Freddie Farrow (Y72), and he would go on to win the champion of champions. Owen Green (R1) and Jacob Pratt (WR1) both booked their places in the champion of champions race in third and fourth. Lewis Blatherwick (SC211) was fifth ahead of Callum Bott (S49D), Tyler Davies (TA60) and Alex Seale (H37).
