UK Autograss Championship 2023 – Round 2 STAR – Men’s and Junior Saloons

Round two of the UK Autograss Championship was held by STAR Autograss Club. A mix of conditions made for some interesting racing across the weekend. Check out the finals here.

Wayne Price (SR53) broke clear of the pack to take his third win of the weekend. Second place went to James Parnell (SP921) ahead of Nathan Lewey (CA4) and the Saturday shoot-out winner Jordan Arrowsmith (SR88). Darren Ince (ST117) beat Pete Watson (Y121) to fifth place, Karl Phillips (P52EM) and Ben Macgregor (IK634) completed the order.

It was a three-way battle for the win which went the way of Phil Badman (S111D), Corey Paisley (P8) was second ahead of Graham Holmes (NS93). Behind it was another three-car fight with the Saturday shoot-out winner Jake Law (SR3) taking fourth place ahead of Jack Broughton (Y50) and Liam Wakefield (R389) who completed the order.

Viv Cole (CM4) was the fastest out of the gate to take an early lead. It was a race long battle between him and Adrian Joyce (WS22) before Cole added to his Saturday shoot-out win. Working his way through the field was Dave George (SN269) who took third place ahead of Ian Fay (WS5). Pete Bott (S47D) was fifth ahead of Stephen Goodwin (NS41), whilst an early spin dropped Jordan Spavins (IK451) to the back.

Lee Poole (S71D) returned to his Saturday form in the final to take the victory ahead of Matt Poole (S24D). Third place went to John Howseman (ST13) followed by Trev Jones (N1) and Andy Meacham (R38). Warren Coles (WS94) beat the Kent pair of Paul Fiddy (IK366) and Crag Parker (IK335) to sixth place.

The rerun of this final saw battles throughout the field. Breaking clear was Alex Puddiphatt (SN23) and Ben Harper (M11) who were fighting it out for the win, with the victory going to Harper. Behind them there was a four-car battle for third, places were being swapped all the way to the flag where Graham Stedman (E77) took the position ahead of Rob Brehony (G21D), Aaron Mason (R19) and Dev North (SS10). Completing the order was Neil Jones (PAC74).

Neil Crompton (S7) had a successful start to his championship campaign after missing round one by taking the win in the final ahead of points leader Aaron Murray (C80). Martyn Canning (E291) held onto third from Jayden Powell (SV18) whilst Sam Fabretti-Green (Y132) completed the finishers in fifth.

It was a close fought final with the grid bunched throughout the race. It was Thomas Woodfield (R55) who got their nose in front to take the win. Jake Jackson (S101Y) came through to take second ahead of Will Barrett (SR17). Fourth place went to the Saturday shoot-out winner Jamie Barlow (WS34) ahead of Keegan Jones (C82) and Russ Victory (A7). The final position went to Jake Whittingham (SR5) and Thomas Ireland (WS6).

Tom Page (SC19) was on form adding to his Saturday shoot-out win with victory in the final. Paul Bacon (N60) came through to take second ahead of Will Barrett (SR16). Daniel Parker (IK345) led Geoff Gallagher (LM7) over the line with Sam Fenton (R5) in sixth ahead of the final finisher Jayran Lewis (PAC46).

A close battle at the front saw Nigel Beard (G33D) take the win with Adam Alderton (SS27) in second. A race to the line saw Brad Gallagher (LM9) pip Simon Reeve (N7) to third. Fifth place went to Bruce Candy (SS17) ahead of Zoe Leyland (LM47) and Dave Watkins (H282).

On the third attempt of the final it was Dave Murphy (A33) who came through to take the win. Behind it was close between the remaining four cars with places swapping and changing throughout. Andrew Watson (SB20) would cross the line in second ahead of Aaron Marfell (G366D), Nigel Gibson (ST38) and Andy Reeve (N28).

Travis Kirk (SR65) recovered from a bad heat one result to take his third win of the weekend in the final. Shaun Gallagher (L9) held onto second place despite being chased down by Jay Gallagher (LM13). Jack Joyce (WS2) would take fourth place ahead of Matthew Rigby (N270) and Mitch Hollingsbee (M888) who completed the order.
